NY Times fabricates pro-Palestinian Bibi quote: a lie fit to print

NY Times fabricates pro-Palestinian Bibi quote: a lie fit to print

Leo Rennert

From an article by Jodi Rudoren, the Jerusalem bureau chief of the New York Times, about Secretary Clinton's visit to Jerusalem, in the  July 17 edition, page A10:

"Welcoming Mrs. Clinton to dinner at his Jerusalem office, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the Palestinians as "an anchor of peace," saying, "We hope to invest every effort to maintain it, to keep the tranquility and see if we can move the process forward."

Did Bibi go off his rocker and really describe the Palestinians as an "anchor of peace," who have kept "tranquility" in relations with Israel?

Of course not.  Bibi aimed these laudatory remarks not at the Palestinians but at Egypt's behavior over the last 30 years prior to the current revolution.  He was talking about Israel's 1979 peace treaty with Egypt.

Doesn't Rudoren know better?  Don't editors who read her copy before putting it into the paper catch such an egregious whopper?

Or they did they drop their guard because it depicted the Palestinians in a roseate light - the way the Times also tends to cover them?

I have no doubt that the Times will be forced to run a correction of such a blatant mistake.  But corrections never get as much play as the errors they're supposed to clean up.

In the meantime, the Palestinians must be delighted to be able to pocket Rudoren's fabrication as evidence from the New York Times that they are fully dedicated to "peace" and "tranquility."
