Finally: A UN Agency That Does Not Let Abbas and Palestinian Authority Waltz In

Finally: A UN Agency That Does Not Let Abbas and Palestinian Authority Waltz In

While UNESCO granted membership to "Palestine" despite the fact it did not have enough votes, at least one UN Agency has refused membership the non-existent state of "Palestine":

The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe on Saturday rejected a Palestinian application to join the organization as an observer, which one official in Jerusalem said was the result of Israeli diplomatic efforts, Army Radio reported Sunday.

Twenty-eight countries voted against the Palestinian request and 21 voted in favor of accepting the application, according to the report.

Among those countries that voted against Palestinian membership were United States, Germany, Italy--and Turkey.

That was something unexpected, and according to the Foreign Ministry it could be a sign of improved relations between Israel and Turkey though Erdogan may have his own reasons.

Maybe Turkey just didn't want competition in the bonds it has been building with Europe.

After all, according to the website of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe:

the OSCE is the world's largest regional security organization. It offers a forum for political negotiations and decision-making in the fields of early warning, conflict prevention, crisis management and post-conflict rehabilitation, and puts the political will of its participating States into practice through its unique network of field missions.

And of all things, "conflict prevention" does not appear to be a major concern of Abbas and the Palestinian Authority.

Quite the contrary.
