On Lt.Eisner and the Desecration of G-d's Name

On Lt.Eisner and the Desecration of G-d's Name

Like Goliath, the haters of the Jewish people not only mock the Israeli army, but the very living G-d of Israel.
From Levi Chazen
"I will make my Holy Name known among My people Israel and I will not desecrate my Holy Name any longer, then the nations will know that I am Hashem, the Holy One in Israel" (Ezekel 39/7).
Rashi comments on this sentence: "The lowliness of Israel is a desecration of G-d's Name."

How very absurd it is that on the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day and right before Israel's Independence Day, that we have still not learnt the basic lesson of why the Jewish people have returned to their land in our days. For 2000 years the Jew was beaten, gassed, belittled, abused, exiled and made to wander from town to town and country to country, as our host nations mocked us, saying: "Where is your G-d now, why does He not
help you?"

And in spite of it all... in spite of a third of our nation being wiped out, the Jewish people survived and returned to our homeland, as our prophet prophesized. The Jewish people arose from the dust, and with it G-d's Holy Name, desecrated among the nations, once again became sanctified.

The nations find this hard to accept, and not a day goes by that they somehow, somewhere don't try to move the clock back and uproot the Jewish people from their homeland, and thus cause G-d's holy Name to be desecrated. By attacking  the Jewish people any way they can, they are literally attacking the G-d of Israel.
In their daily demonstrations against the State of Israel, the anarchists, leftists and Arabs belittle, spit, and curse the Israel Defense Forces who are out there protecting the Jewish people. For the great majority of these times, the IDF just sits there and remains silent in the face of verbal and abusive attacks against them.

Is there a desecration of G-d's Name worse than this? Here the haters of the Jewish people not only mock the Israeli army, but the very living G-d of Israel.

Some 3000 years ago, the giant Palestinian Goliath came out to Israel's camp to mock the Jewish people and their G-d. Daily, he would come to belittle and curse the Jewish people until finally David arose and said: How long will he desecrate G-d's great Name? He comes with his spear and sword, but I come with the Name of the living G-d. His curses ended when David defeated him.

Lt. Col. Shalom Eisner had had enough, enough of the mocking and the curses against the Jewish people, so he did the natural thing and struck back. He thus defended not only his troops, but the honor of the whole Jewish people.

How unfortunate it is that this great man, who has dedicated the greater part of his life to defending the Jewish people, was immediately attacked and removed from his post.

From the Prime Minister to the top brass, they were quick to denounce him and send him to the wolves. In their view, we must be cursed, take the abuse, and let ourselves be spit on and our honor stepped upon, all this to find favor in the eyes of the nations.

More importantly, we fail to understand why the Jewish people in our generation have come back to the Land of Israel. The 2000 years of exile have been the greatest Chilul Hashem/deseration of G-d's Name, and so Hashem in His great mercy has returned us to our land in order to sanctify His great Name.

How unfortunate for us that our leaders understand nothing of this, but only the fear of what the nations will say. What we need now is more soldiers like Lt. Col. Shalom Eisner. Not only should he be put back in his post, but maybe he should also be made the head of the Israeli army!
