Mahmoud Abbas’ Political Advisor Says Armed Resistance Is “Suicide” for Palestinians

The other day I reported that both Ismail Haniyeh and Khaled Meshal recently called on Palestinians to kidnap Israeli soldiers in order to bring about the release of additional Palestinian prisoners.

Today, an Islamic Jihad official made similar statements as he said that “the resistance factions continue to plan day and night to kidnap Zionist soldiers.” The official also said that "the best way to free our prisoners will be through resistance and abducting Israeli soldiers"

Nimer Hammad, one of Mahmoud Abbas’ top advisors, has responded to these statements by saying that "We bled, died and sacrificed much against Israel. But the Second Intifada was destruction for the Palestinian people." He continued to say that the release of prisoners will not occur through armed resistance but rather by isolating Israel internationally. According to Hammad the Palestinians must “put it [Israel] in the corner.” Additionally, Hammad said that armed resistance would be “suicide” for the Palestinians, and would only serve Israel.
