Six Palestinians arrested, one sentenced to a month in prison, for eating in public during Ramadan
PA cleric: "Our streets are Islamic," therefore even non-Muslims should be "severely punished" for eating in public

Six people have been arrested and one sentenced to a month in prison for eating in public during the month of Ramadan, according to the official Palestinian Authority daily newspaper. Under Islamic law, eating is prohibited from sunrise until sunset during the entire month.
In addition, the Chairman of the PA Supreme Court for Shari'ah Law said PA law should prohibit even non-Muslims and those who cannot fast for health reasons from eating in public during the month. Sheikh Yusuf Ida'is explained: "Our streets are Islamic," and formal legislation should be enacted to "severely punish" anyone who eats publicly during Ramadan. Sheikh Ida'is was appointed Chairman of the Shari'ah court by presidential order of Mahmoud Abbas in January 2012.
It should be noted that approximately 10 per cent of Palestinians in the West Bank are Christian.

PA TV interview with the Chairman of the PA Supreme Court for Shari'ah Law, Sheikh Yusuf Ida'is:
TV host: "If someone doesn't fast for some reason [during Ramadan month] because he follows a different religion or has health reasons, it's his right. However, he breaks the spirit of Ramadan by eating or drinking in public or at work." Ida'is: "We have to monitor the streets and severely punish anyone who [eats] in public during Ramadan, and this is the responsibility of the security forces. Our [Palestinian] streets are Islamic, praise Allah. Any person caught committing this sin in public during Ramadan has to be imprisoned until the end of Ramadan, as an example to others. I call upon others [non-Muslims] to be considerate of Muslims' feelings."
How come that a territory where all are expected to bow to totalitarian authority (soon, like in some Islamic countries women-tourists and local non-Muslim women will have to cover their heads and maybe they will introduce jazziya, I wouldn't be too surprised) is so cherished by European leftists (I know, they bow to totalitarianism eagerly under the condition it is for others, not for them personally) while free Israel, where nobody is asking in what I believe, what I eat and when and who has the streets (first time I hear about streets' religious denomination) is so despised. That I know too - the leftists of all times are afraid of freedom, of people free to think and believe what they wiil. And that is what Israel stands for, and that is what I cherish!
Help me understand why those who support Peace - in the U.S., in Israel, in Palestine and throughout the Middle East - are NOT HEARD OR EFFECTIVE IN SPEAKING UP FOR THE serenity, courage and wisdom needed to achieve Peace! They seem as unwilling/unable to enter into negotiations as are the warmongers. Where are those who are devoted to working toward shared power and shared geography, doing away with present and ancient feuds = basis of "Feudalism," no matter the country or person who "feuds." President Obama is a skilled and practiced organizer of disparate factions and yet the "Sherman's-March-through-Georgia" current tactics of the extremists in the U.S. House of Representatives, the blatant "eye-for-an-eye" tactics used by some in Israel and in Palestine as well as throughout their region are oppositional to any sanity through de-escalation of conflict in the area. Romney and his followers seem to me to be shamelessly using unscrupulous tactics similar to "suitors" wanting to satisfy their lusts for power and fears of "losing face" by employing any means at hand to "win." SHARED-POWER (The underlying, BEDROCK CONCEPT OF DEMOCRACY) SEEMS IMPOSSIBLE for them to grasp. WISER HUMANS have known for Millenia that Patriarchal POWER-OVER IS THE KEY CONCEPT LEADING TO oppression, DICTATORSHIPS, racism, elitism, sexism AND, ABOVE ALL, THE TOTAL MAYHEM, RAPE, AND Devastating Plunder OF WARFARE. It seems to me that Jewish and Christian people of wisdom (referencing King Solomon's example of knowing that a truly caring Mother realizes that DIVISION is not the answer), Wise women, of any religious/spiritual persuasions, of any color, humans who are not corrupted by greed, for example, MUST COME TO UNDERSTAND MORE clearly the thinking and practices which have led to their persecutions in the past to keep from repeating them. DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO UNTO YOU" is crystal clear to any except "Those who DO NOT WANT TO UNDERSTAND."
