The price of oil, and the cost of blood

The price of oil, and the cost of blood

U.S. President Barack Obama’s approval rating is dropping in the polls like never before; but isn’t it great that there is someone to blame. In Los Angeles, the owner of a gas station raised the price to $5.09 per gallon. This is not because of his avarice, God forbid, but rather because of a little country in the Middle East. It is called Israel and it has the chutzpah to protect itself in every way possible, even militarily, against the very real threat of an Iranian nuclear weapon. Israel will do this even at the expense of the rising cost of a gallon of gasoline, may God protect us all.

Obama, to his credit, did not use diplomatic language this time: In an interview with an American news source he clarified, in his way, that talk of a military conflict with Iran was the reason for the rising gas prices.

Seventy-six percent of Americans drive in private cars to work or to faraway malls in their spare time. So gasoline expenses are an important aspect of the American family’s budget, especially since they are not used to driving small cars.

According to an ABC poll published on Tuesday, only 38 percent of Americans support Obama’s economic policies; and that is in an election year, even after recent encouraging data showing a slight recovery of the U.S. economy. The polling data is not a good sign for the president. You have to remember that the main issue on the mind of the average American citizen leading up to the November elections is the economy. No wonder Obama needs a scapegoat. Who will it be? The Israeli government.

Obama’s remarks are not surprising: He already made them in his speech to 13,000 AIPAC activists earlier this month. But then everyone, including President Shimon Peres, was blinded by the “most pro-Israeli speech” ever heard from an American president. Obama was firm on Iran, and for Israel, it was the speech of a friend.

But Obama noted that the threat of an attack against Iran was the cause for the rise in gas prices. In other words, Iran may be responsible for the desire to destroy the world, but Israel, no less importantly, is responsible for the rise in fuel prices.

One has to be in the U.S. and hear Ron Paul’s supporters, who want the next administration to ignore the Iran issue, to understand how dangerous the U.S. president’s spin is.

Rising fuel costs? It’s Israel, stupid.
