In 1913 or so, the house of Saud was a mere tribe among others, and it was the British admiration for what they falsely saw as "nobility" in the faces of the Saudi leaders, that led them to pick them out. They were never royalty, merely tribal heads who lived like bedouin savages, had long hair with two plaits down the sides of their faces and dirty and cruel looking. Maybe it appealed to the public school educational experience of these colonial types. Anyway, the West handed them this oil on a platter. The only person who saw through them was Winston Churchill and occasionally TE Lawrence himself. There are also maps showing the Saudi/Wahhabi tribal area, hardly deserving of being handed the whole peninsular!!Juniper in the Deserthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05708630426785072160noreply@blogger.com
